At the program launch, Standard Chartered Bank CEO Kariuki Ngari emphasized the importance of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as a crucial enabler of economic growth, contributing to 70% of jobs. The program’s theme, “Advancing global trends in women-owned businesses,” aims to support women-led SMEs by prioritizing those that incorporate emerging technologies, sustainability, and digital economy accelerants for sustainable growth. This approach aligns with both emerging global trends and post-pandemic recovery efforts, which signal the need for businesses to adopt these trends for sustained growth. As women-led businesses account for a significant number of SMEs, ensuring their growth and success is crucial to building a strong SME ecosystem, supported by access to capital and capacity building, as the country moves towards economic recovery.
