The OceanHub Africa accelerator has announced that applications are now open for its fourth edition, which aims to support up to 12 of Africa’s most promising impact for-profit startups that are focused on preserving and restoring the health of the ocean. The accelerator, which selected its third cohort in October 2021, is committed to nurturing an environmentally conscious and profitable economy that effectively mitigates the effects of global warming, overexploitation and pollution of the oceans.
Startups selected for the OceanHub Africa accelerator will benefit from an online programme that seeks out sustainable pathways yielding stable profits and avenues for scalable growth throughout Africa. They will also gain access to a network of leading ocean experts, mentors, impact investors and potential clients, as well as in-person training, tailored business skills, and personal development via one-on-one coaching. The startups will also be able to attend networking events and conferences, including a stand and stage time at the Ocean Innovation Africa annual summit.
Selected startups will also receive up to US$75,000 worth of cloud services from AWS Activate and over US$40,000 worth of mechanical engineering design software licences for prototyping and virtual testing via partner 3DExperience Lab. In addition, there will be potential funding of up to US$10,000, and support in preparing and running investor pitches, as well as structuring deals. OceanHub offers access to a large portfolio of impact investors as part of its ecosystems.
To qualify for the programme, applicant startups must be ocean-minded, for-profit, and have a scalable service or product available on the market or soon to be available on the market. Applications will be open until May 14, with the eight-month programme beginning in July. OceanHub Africa aims to support the growth of innovative startups that prioritize ocean conservation while creating sustainable economic opportunities across the continent.
